Father of Carbon Nanotubes Visits BGI for Exchange and Collaboration

On August 8, Professor Sumio Iijima, the renowned Japanese physicist and chemist known as the "Father of Carbon Nanotubes," visited the Beijing Graphene Institute (BGI) to discuss its development, graphene material research, and commercialization efforts. He was warmly welcomed by Academician Liu Zhongfan, Director of BGI, and Meng Yanfang, Party Secretary of BGI.

Accompanied by Director Liu, Prof. Iijima toured BGI's exhibition hall and industrialization building, learning about the institute's research capabilities, product portfolio, and its progress toward industrial application.

Fu Yunqiao, Director of BGI's Graphene Cryo-EM Grid Division, introduced Prof. Iijima to BGI’s ongoing efforts in the commercialization of graphene materials. The Monene glass fiber material, a key innovation, has already been successfully applied in aircraft, wind turbine blades, and subways.

During the visit, Prof. Iijima attentively inquired about the performance, features, and applications of the products, and praised BGI for its remarkable achievements in the field of graphene material research.
